Morning Psalms: 32, 143 I Evening Psalms: 102, 130 Amos 5:6-15 I Hebrews 12: 1-14 I Luke 18:9-14

Today as I write this it is Ash Wednesday. The readings from Amos and Hebrews talk about rejecting evil and embrace good. "Seek good, and not evil, that you may live" "lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely" Repentance means a change of mind and since we are broken we need frequent mind changing. It doesn't matter how much is given up for lent or repentance unless you change your mind. The tax collector is the model of lent. Don't be self-righteous, or pious. Join with the tax collector and be open hearted towards God.

The weight is lifted by our Gospel so that we are filled with lightness and our Lenten observance can be filled with Joy.  One way to repent during this Lenten Season is to write a list of the things you need to let go of and let God guide you through it and at the end of the week rip it up.

May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you now and forever. Amen
